Three undefeated in Div1 Major Pennant

Round two of the Srixon Major Metropolitan Pennant was contested over the weekend with a number standout results.

In Section one, 2015 Division One pennant winners St. Michael's comfortably accounted for North Ryde with a 5 matches to 2 win.  St. Michael's Daniel Kolar and Weiling Wang recorded 6 and 5 wins while 2016 Australian Amateur Championship runner-up Travis Smyth got the better of David Calleija 3 and 2.

Castle Hill bettered Long Reef in the other sectional match 5½ matches to 1½.  Daniel Gale and Rodney McDonald are big winners for the Northern Sydney Club, recording 6 and 5 wins over Long Reef’s Dylan Perry and Mark Cruise respectively.

Bonnie Doon Golf Club made it two from two against New South Wales Golf Club, with a 5½ matches to 1½ away win at the La Perouse course with NSW Amateur Champion Austin Bautista accounting for Micahel Lambert 2 and 1, while team mate Troy Moses took care of Zinyo Garcia 3 and 2.

Liverpool battled hard for the win against of Bankstown 4 ½ matches to 2 ½ with Nathan Loury the standout in his 4 and 2 win over Daniel Poole.

In Section three, Moore Park got the better of The Australian in a very tight battle 4 matches to 3. Despite big wins by the Australian Golf Club’s Kevin Yuan and Blake Windred, who played in position one and two respectively, it was the middle order of the Moore Park team, Hayden Gulliver, Clancy Bowe, John Betland and Darren Shepherd that ensured the result as they all recorded wins. Gulliver’s one-up win over Zac Mullins an indicator of how close the tussle was.

Pymble made short work of their opponent Cabramatta in the other section three match with an easy 6½ matches to ½ win at home. Big winners for Pymble were Joseph Tinder and Craig Green who recorded big 6 and 5 results.

Concord made it look easy against Mona Vale in Division 4 with a big 6 match to 1 home course win after the teams halved their tussle last week 3½ matches all. Concord’s Jason Hong, Mitchell Norbis, Nicholas Watts Joshua Gadd, Brandan Biddle, and Jac Delaney recorded wins, Gadd the standout with a big 7 and 6 win over Justin Hurst.

Avondale didn’t have it all their own way in the 4½ matches to 2½ win over Ryde-Parramatta. Winners for the home team were Harrison Endycott, Jye Pickin and William Bayliss. The standout however was Matthew Wittenberg with his big 6 and 5 win over Steven Donnelly. 

In Division 2, Monash, Oatlands and Pennant Hills remain undefeated.

Oatlands accounted for Bayview in section 1, 4 matches to 3 with Nick Murdoch the big winner 7 and 6. While Muirfield bettered Macquarie Links, 4½ matches to 2½. James Vidler posted the biggest win on the day for Muirfield, with a 6 and 4 win over Lee Zelesco.

A dominant Monash Country Club had too much for Fox Hills, winning 6 Matches to 1. Golf NSW rep Cameron Davis winning 3 and 2, and Anthony Tan winning 5 and 3 along the way.

Lynwood Country Club and The Lakes staged a tight battle at Lynwood, with the home side prevailing 4 matches to 3. Standout for Lynwood was Darren Barlow with a 5 and 4 win.

Stonecutters Ridge took the points in an away match agains New Bright, 4 Matches to 3 with Mark Hancock form Stonecutters too strong for Jason Field of New Brighton 7 and 5.

In section 4, Pennant Hills defeated Wakehurst at Wakehurst 4½ matches to 2½. Pennant Hill’s Jordan Garner dominated his opponent Brett Mason, 7 and 5. In the other half of the group, Killara had it easy with a win against Antill Park, 5½ matches to 1½, Simon Cooper the North Shore club’s biggest winner 7 and 5 over Callum Duran.
