Three Way Tie at Lonsdale Senior Amateur

The stage is set for a thrilling final round at this year’s Lonsdale Senior Amateur with three players tied at the top after today’s opening round. Alan Buckley (Commonwealth), Ken O’Brien (Rossdale) & John Wheeler (The National) have all fired fine rounds of one over par 72 to setup a final round showdown.

With the top ten players separated by only five strokes, this year’s title is certainly up for grabs when the field heads out early tomorrow morning for the final round.

In the nett component, Buckley shares the lead with Lonsdale local Tom Freeman after both fired fine rounds of 67 nett from handicaps of 6 & 11 respectively. In third place is a trio of The National members including Wheeler along with Pat Giles & Adrian Barr sitting just one shot adrift after nett rounds of 68.

Helen Pascoe (Buninyong) leads the way in the women’s stroke component with a solid score of 81, with Maryann Elson (The Dunes) in hot pursuit just three strokes behind after carding an 84

In the women’s stableford event, Anglesea local Lyn Thompson is setting the pace recording a score of 38 stableford points with Diane Baskett (Warragul) in second place after finishing with a first round score of 35 stableford points

69 players teed off in favourable conditions this afternoon with the majority of the field staying down on the Bellarine Peninsula following the Surfcoast Senior Amateur earlier this week. The Bellarine Peninsula is home to an array of picturesque courses with Lonsdale providing a unique golfing challenge.

Players will attend the Tournament dinner tonight at Lonsdale Golf Club, with the second and final round to get underway tomorrow via a multi tee start at 7:30am.
