Three-way tie in Salver

Japanese duo Yuka Yasuda and Yuna Nishimura both 17 years old, along with Amy Chu from NSW, are the joint leaders of the Rene Erichsen Salver, after all three carded impressive 4-under opening rounds.

In windy conditions this morning and starting from the 14th tee, Yasuda carded five birdies, including three in a row from holes five to seven.

“My short game was very good today, but my long game was so-so.”

When asked about the strong southwesterly conditions this morning and the later start tomorrow and traditional afternoon sea breeze, Yasuda wasn’t too concerned.

“Wind no problem.” Yasuda said.

Nishimura the highest world ranked player in the field at 41, made six birdies in her 69 and much like Yasuda was pleased with her short game and scoring.

“Long game was no good, but putting was really good. I made some very good putts, three metres for birdie.”

“This is a wonderful course, I am very happy with my score”. Nishimura added.

Teeing off in the afternoon, Chu from The Australian Golf Club made birdie on her opening two holes to set up her round.

“I was really happy today, started really well and kept it steady”.

“I hit a few close and the putts went in which helped”. Chu said.

Western Australian Kathryn Norris is in outright fourth after a solid 3-under 70, while last year’s champion Rebecca Kay from Queensland is one shot further back at 2-under.

Best placed South Australian tied 11th is Amelia Whinney (+2) with Jin-young Yun from The Grange, in a tie for 16th at 4-over.
