Tiger eyes 13th major

Tiger Woods appears to be closing in on his 13th major title after taking a three-stroke lead into the final round of the US PGA Championship. Although not as sharp as he was during his second round when he fired a 63, Woods managed three pars to start the round before a birdie at the par-four fourth. Another string of pars was followed by a birdie at the par-four 12th, where he dropped in a 10-footer. A bogey at the par-three 14th dropped Woods to seven-under-par, before four pars to finish his round saw the World No.1 sign for a one-under round of 69. Stephen Ames will be paired with Woods in the final round after the Trinidad and Tobago golfer fired a round of 69 to finish at four-under, one clear of American Woody Austin. In outright fourth place at two-under is John Senden, the Australian shooting a round of 69 which included three birdies and two bogeys. South African Ernie Els (69) is a shot further adrift at one-under, while Australians Adam Scott (70) and Nathan Green (67) are among a group of seven players tied for sixth place at even par. Boo Weekley is also at level par after the American came to the 18th hole needing a birdie for a 63 but he left himself a long attempt and three-putted for a bogey and a five-under 65. Australian Geoff Ogilvy was well in contention after his opening nine holes, but a bogey at the 13th and a double bogey at the last dropped him back to one-over and a tie for 13th place. Fellow Australian Stuart Appleby carded a third round of 72 to finish at three-over, Richard Green fired a 70 to be tied for 38th at five-over, while compatriots Nick O&aposHern (72) and Rod Pampling (72) are a further stroke behind in equal 44th place.
