Tiger lurks at Barclays

A third-round 67 moved Tiger Woods into contention in The Barclays at Liberty National as Rod Pampling finds himself six strokes behind leaders Paul Goydos and Steve Marino. Woods, though, improved on his first two rounds of 72 and 70 to move to five shots behind the leading pair, who kept on going stroke for stroke as both players signed off on identical three-under 68 scores to be at nine-under overall. The pair kept Fredrik Jacobson (68) and Webb Simpson (72) at bay and will be two strokes ahead at the start of the final round on Sunday night (AEST). Pampling, though, is all but out of contention, finding himself six strokes behind the leaders at three-under overall after posting a respectable three-under par on Saturday. Robert Allenby (69) is two strokes further back while Jason Day, John Senden, James Nitties and Adam Scott are struggling on the leaderboard. At the Johnnie Walker Championship in the Scottish city of Perth, meanwhile, Swede Peter Hedlund holds a one-stroke lead over Paul Lawrie. Playing on greens rated the worst he&aposs seen this year, Hedlund posted an impressive four-under 68 as he climbed to the top of the leaderboard after starting the third round four strokes behind. Overnight leader Lawrie couldn&apost maintain his form and actually dropped a stroke through a one-over 73 that sees him just one behind Hedlund going into the final day. Danny Lee is the best of the Australasians, five strokes behind Hedlund after posting an even-par 72 on Saturday. The New Zealand teenager, though, may take heart from the fact he won the similarly-named Johnnie Walker Classis earlier this year, which was also held in Perth, albeit the Australian one. Michael Curtain (75) and Marcus Fraser (74) are the best of the Australians at the Gleneagles course, a further four strokes behind Lee.
