The stage was set for a nail biting close finish today at Shepparton for the second and final round of the 2015 Shepparton Senior Amateur. Steady rain overnight left the course damp, and misty rain for the early part of the morning meant low scoring wasn’t an easy task for the players.
Champion of the day was The National’s Guy Krall, shooting a 4 over par 76 off the stick to take home the 2015 Shepparton Senior Amateur title. After taking the lead in the first round yesterday, Krall played in the first group with his nearest rivals, just holding them off to finish with a two round total of 151 (75, 76). Second place was awarded to steady Ray Walker (Chirnside Park) finishing only 3 shots back from Krall on 154.
Christopher Mansour (RACV Cape Schank) shot rounds of net 70 and 75 to win the handicap title by the slightest of margins, only one shot clear of runner up Shepparton’s own Peter Junor (with 2 rounds of 73 totalling 146).
Helen Pacsoe successfully defended her title of Shepparton Senior Amateur Champion, after she posted 2 very good scratch stableford scores of 30 and 32, a whole 11 points ahead of Runner Up Heather Harley (Kooringal). Bobette Wilkinson (Tocumwal) had more success in the Handicap Stableford event, taking top honours with scores of 34 and 32, to finish ahead of another familiar face to senior events, Elizabeth Alston (Winchelsea) who posted scores of 27 and 35.
Special thanks are to be extended to the Shepparton Golf Club, their staff and the many volunteers for their superb hospitality and assistance for the duration of the tournament.
The next event on the Senior Calendar is at Tocumwal for the Tocumwal Senior Amateur being held this Thursday and Friday, then across to Coomealla Golf Club for the Coomealla Senior Amateur on Monday 20 July to Wednesday 22 July. The August Sandbelt Senior events then take place, players wishing to participate in these events are encouraged to put their entries in promptly before the fields fill up.
