Tippett & Pascoe claim honours at Kooringal

Barry Tippett from Thirteenth Beach has won the 2015 Kooringal Golf Club Senior Amateur following the final round of the 36-hole Championship on Wednesday 18 February.

Under cloudy skies for the second day in a row, Tippett returned rounds of 74, 68 for a 36-hole total of 142 to win by 5 strokes from Runner-up Jeff Hasthorpe (Trafalgar) on 147. Mick Asami (Huntingdale) was a further 2 strokes behind in third place on 149.

Tippett commented on his enjoyment of the tournament and how well it was run, reiterating that the senior events are the “envy of all the states around Australia”. He also made mention of his playing partner Jeff Hasthorpe who was leading the tournament after round one, noting that his game is “gun-barrel straight”, adding to Tippett’s own enjoyment of the day.

Kooringal’s own Angus MaClean took out the handicap title with rounds of 69, 68 making up two-round total of 137 from a GA Handicap of 14. MaClean won the event in a three-way countback from Stand Davis (Bendigo)  off a 7 handicap and Adrian Rossi (Commonwealth) playing off 22.

Helen Pascoe (Buninyong) was the clear victor in the women’s scratch Stableford event, carding 35 and 33 point rounds totalling 68 points. Vera Lund, also from Buninyong, took out the top prize in the overall Stableford event with rounds of 31, 38 totalling 69 points.

Helen noted the small contingent of female players was a matter of “quality not quantity” and encouraged all the ladies to return next year to enjoy that fantastic hospitality that Kooringal Golf Club provides.

Golf Victoria extends its thanks to Kooringal Golf Club for staging the event. The course was presented in superb condition ahead of the upcoming Pro-am, with all players greatly appreciating the commitment of the club and ground staff.
