Titles Decided at Warrnambool

The inaugural Warrnambool Senior Amateur concluded this morning with Barry Tippett and Diana Robinson taking out the respective men’s and women’s titles.

Following on from his sensational victory at the National Senior Masters last week, Barry Tippett opened with a solid 74 yesterday and closed with another 74 today to take the maiden title on 148. The 13th Beach member finished two shots clear of Trafalgar’s Jeff Hasthorpe who fired consecutive rounds of 75 for a tournament total of 150.
Tippet’s purple patch began back in February when he etched his name on the Lonsdale Senior Amateur title by a convincing 10 strokes and has continued that momentum ever since.
Warrnambool’s very own Diana Robinson opened the tournament with 85 before signing for 78 on her road to glory in gross section. Playing from a handicap of 10, Robinson also warded off the strong local contingent to claim the honours in the nett section by a substantial 8 strokes.
Meanwhile the 36-hole men’s nett component was taken home by another Warrnambool member in Peter Lumsden. Lumsden carded rounds of 70 and 68 from a handicap of 9 to notch out the gross runner-up Jeff Hasthorpe by a comfortable four shots.
Players will move to the Murray River region in early May for the Cobram-Barooga Senior Amateur before shifting to Gippsland for their opening title at Leongatha and Warragul Golf Clubs.
