Woolgoolga's Logan Toms is the early leader halfway through day one at the Srixon Mid-Amateur Championship at Shoalhaven Heads Golf Club.
Toms, the 2015 Mid-Amateur Champion, plotted his way around the tight better than anyone to card a one over par 72 in conditions perfect for scoring.
He holds a one-shot lead from Shoalhaven Heads golfer Mark Johnston, with a group of five players another shot back at three over par, including Edmund Brownlow, Shannon Speller, Daniel Worthy, Stuart Nelson and Michael Bell
Toms' round which included two birdies could have been a whole lot better except for back-to-back bogeys over his final two holes.
Despite the disappointing finish, the 40-year-old was quietly pleased with his round.
"I'm satisfied with it, I'm not happy finishing bogey-bogey, but that's golf," the 40-year-old said post round.
Despite the finish, Toms was impressed with the condition of the testing layout.
"You've got to work your golf ball around here," he added." I hit a couple of them pretty close, within eight feet for both birdies.
"The greens are unbelievable, and the fairways are great," he smiled.
