The final event of the 2015 Victorian Senior Order of Merit, the Moyne Senior Classic, commenced this afternoon in arguably the most testing conditions of any event in 2015 at Port Fairy GC. The 108 strong field of 85 men & 23 women faced extreme winds for most of the afternoon ensuring a stern test of links golf.

Defending champion Helen Pascoe leads the gross component of the Women’s event after returning a score of 27 gross stableford points (9 over par). Box Hill’s Jenny Long & Peninsula Kingswood’s Marilyn Takle took round one honours in the stableford event with both recording 31 stableford points.

In the Men’s championship, last start winner Alan Bullas (Commonwealth) has continued his fine form to lead both the gross & nett events returning a score of 77 from a daily handicap of 3 for a nett 74. Current Paul Lulofs contender Paul Fink (RACV Cape Schanck) is hot on the heels of Bullas in outright second with a nett score of 76 setting himself up in a strong position heading into tomorrow’s final round.

In second place in the gross championship is The National’s Tony Briers who fired a round of 81 with Cobram Barooga’s Ross Percy in third place after an 82.

The final round concludes tomorrow morning via an 8am multi tee start.
