Tough day for Aussies

Australian duo Scott Gardiner and James Nitties finished in a tie for 11th place at the Midwest Classic in Kansas. The pair struggled in the final round and eventually finished the Web.com Tour tournament six shots behind winner Shawn Stefani of the USA. Nitties was well placed for victory heading into the final round, having shot a third round of 66 to be one stroke from the lead and in outright second place. But a bogey at the third hole, followed by a double bogey seven at the fifth put paid to his title charge as Stefani took control. Stefani went on to complete a two stroke victory over fellow Americans Luke List and Russell Henley, while compatriots Tag Ridings and Matt Weibring shared fourth. Of the other Australians to make the halfway cut, Peter Lonard tied for 63rd some 16 shots from the lead, while Nick Flanagan was a further shot back after closing with a disappointing 76.
