Toyne Wins Inaugural Senior Masters

Queensland’s Stephen Toyne collected the inaugural Tasmanian Men’s Senior Masters title on Sunday at the Royal Hobart Golf Club.

The 58-year-old Indooroopilly member won the event conducted in conjunction with the Tasmanian Open from November 25-27.

Toyne carded rounds of 75, 76 and 77 to finish twelve-over-par and five shots clear of second place getter Mark Gatty of Western Australia on seventeen-over.

Gatty, a 55-year-old member of Royal Perth, pressured Toyne with second and third rounds of 76 and 77, but couldn’t recover from his opening rounds of 80.

The leading Tasmanian was local member Peter Crocker who shot scores of 81, 83 and 83, for a total of 247.

The corresponding women’s event was won by local member Wendy Davidson with scores of 84, 93 and 94.

Davidson held Devonport Golf Club’s Jane Donohue at bay with Donohue returning 92, 97 and 86 for her three rounds.

Current Tasmanian women’s senior champion and Ulverstone member Rosemary Paton placed third with rounds of 93, 95 and 90.
