Trans-Tasman flavour to Amateur finalists

In an epic Trans-Tasman battle, both Srixon Australian Amateur Championship finals will be contested between players from Australia and New Zealand over 36 holes at Lake Karrinyup Country Club in Perth on Wednesday. The 2010 finalists are Matt Jager (WA), Ben Campbell (NZ), Stacey Keating (VIC) and Cecilia Cho (NZ). Western Australia s Matt Jager will take on New Zealand s Ben Campbell after Jager defeated Chinese Taipei s Chien-Yao Hung 1-up on the 18th hole while Campbell emerged victorious from a birdie blitz with Victorian and 2008 Srixon Australian Stroke Play champion Bryden Macpherson. Jager said consistency would be a key to success on Wednesday. It will take a lot of consistent play really. If you put yourself in the right positions around here there are birdies available and I ve been doing that pretty well, Jager said. Campbell, who fired an outstanding nine birdies during today s semi final, said he would need to repeat the performance on Wednesday. I played with Matt for the first two rounds of the stroke play and he had the 7-under, so he’s definitely the one to beat after playing like that, Campbell said. For me, it ll need to be good solid hitting and keep the putter how it was going today, Campbell added. For Victorian Stroke Play champion Stacey Keating, who defeated Chinese Taipei s Hsuan-Yu Yao in the semi final, it will be the second Srixon Australian Amateur Championship final appearance. It was obviously nice and obviously very excited to get into the final, Keating said. This afternoon everything seemed to go my way. Made a few birdies early and got to 6-up through 8 holes and then sailed in from there. It was good to finish it off early and have an early match before the 36 [holes] tomorrow. Cho, who had seven birdies and was too good for Queensland s Courtney Massey in a 7&5 win, said she was looking for the same tomorrow. I m getting nervous and excited. I just want to be consistent tomorrow. Just to play like today, really, Cho said. Cho and Jager will be shooting to hold both the Srixon Australian Stroke Play and Srixon Australian Amateur titles. It d be an amazing week. I d set my sights on playing well this week so it d be a great feeling if I could get over the line tomorrow. Jager said.
