Traralgon Classic underway

The final Oates Vic Open qualifying opportunity for amateurs is underway today at the Traralgon Classic. On a hot and humid Australia Day afternoon, 54 players teed it up in the hopes of scoring the last 2 positions into next weeks event at 13th Beach Golf Links.

Sheradyn Johnson is the clubhouse leader in the women’s field. The Commonwealth member posted a tied course record score of one under par 70 to be lead by 2 shots from Southern’s Kay Bannan, with Shanaiah Fernando (Yarra Yarra) a further 5 shots back on 77.

The men’s field is tightly contested with three players sharing the lead. Brody Harbinson-Graham (Woodlands), Harrison Savage (Neangar Park) and George Worrall (Kingston Heath) all cared rounds of 2 under par 70 to be one ahead from local member Tim Coffey on 71.

Due to forecasted extreme heat and humidity, the event has been reduced to 54-holes with Saturday afternoon’s round cancelled. Round 2 will start at 7:30am tomorrow.
