A trio of champions got out in the warm spring sun for a good look at Stonecutters Ridge before this week’s NSW Open.
Anthony Brown, Aaron Townsend and Leigh McKechnie were one of the first groups to hit off this morning.
Stonecutters Ridge always brings back a few fond memories for 2014 Champion Anthony Brown. Despite the challenges of working a nine to five job, he’s keen to rekindle the form he displayed when he lifted the Kel Nagle Cup.
“I’ve been working the last four or five months, so form-wise, I'm not sure yet, but I’m looking forward to it,
“I’ve got some good memories of this place. I love coming here; I enjoy the golf course, and I’m looking forward to getting started on Thursday.
Aaron Townsend, the 2008 Champion was equally happy to be back at this year’s Open. The Novocastrian, who has been playing on the Japanese tour is keen to convert some recent good form into some solid scores.
“I’ve been playing alright, but haven’t been scoring that well, it’s a fine line between playing well and scoring well,
He’s happy to be back at the NSW Open and thrilled to see the tournament is once again growing in stature.
“It’s always great to come back to a tournament where your name is on the trophy. I like this course too.
“It’s great to see the Open getting back to level it deserves to be,” He said.
Leigh McKechnie is quietly confident about his chances this week.
“I’ve been going ok the last couple of months; I’ve struck a bit if form and I’m looking forward to it. I need a good couple of weeks to retain my card for next year,”
He’s familiar with the course and rats his chances.
“It’s my third time here. Hopefully, the weather stays calm,”
”with the form I’ve got at the moment hopefully I’ll be there on Sunday,
“I’m looking forward to this week. The greens are rolling nicely, and the course is in great condition, so all good.” he smiled.
