Tumby Bay welcomes record field

A record field enjoyed perfect playing conditions as Tumby Bay Golf Club played host to the 2011 Golf SA Men&aposs Sand Greens Championship over the weekend of 20 and 21 August. In total 107 players made the journey to the picturesque seaside town on Eyre Peninsula, with a tight contest being fought out over 36-holes across Tumby Bay&aposs &aposscrapes&apos layout. In the men&aposs A Grade (handicaps 0 to 16), Nuriootpa&aposs Richard Nairn completed his fourth Championship victory, recording rounds of 65 and 66 (131) over the weekend. Runner-up in the A Grade was Kadina&aposs Jim Wheeler with back to back rounds of 68 (136) with Wyalla&aposs Chris Burns (69, 68 – 137) finishing a further shot back in third. While Nairn had previously won the event in 1992, 1993 and 2005, Wheeler was aiming for a unprecedented third straight Sand Greens title and seventh overall title having first won the event in 1999. In the men&aposs B Grade division (handicaps 17 to 27), Thaxted Park&aposs Garry Reynolds held on to win by a single shot from Cleve&aposs Terry Gale. Reynolds recorded rounds of 83, 76 (159) to Gale&aposs 82, 78 (160), with Brandon Murdock (Warooka) rounding out the top three after rounds of 83 and 78 (161).
