Two Course Records Wrap Up Spring For Dengate

Dengate was able to capitalize on her 5 shot lead after day one to come in victorious at the Spring Country Tournament and taking out the Ruby McKenzie Trophy (Overall Best 36-Hole Gross). Dengateshot a course-record tying 75 at Belvoir Park Golf Club today today to take out the title with a total score of146, nine shots ahead of runner-up Bonnie Chignell (Sale) on 154.
Julie Mortlock (Barham, handicap 28) had the best Nett scores over the two days, with rounds of 67 and 69 for a combined total of 136 Nett to take home the Vi Teesdale Trophy and was also overwhelmed with cleaning up most of the prizes for the day. Runner-up was Karen Dillion (Gisborne, handicap 23)with a total of 139 Nett, 3 shots behind Mortlock.
The shot of the day belonged to Joyce Craig from Barham GC, who had a hole-in-one on the 138 meter par-3 10th hole at Neangar Park Golf Club. Using a 7 wood, Craig struck the perfect shot towards the pin but was unable to see it go in. Luckily a spotter was present to witness Craig’s first ever hole-in-one.
Special thanks to Belvoir Park Golf Club and Neangar Park Golf Club for their generous support and hospitality for the last few days. The tremendous effort from the members, staff, and volunteers from both clubs, and GV board members Sue Rea and Gale Orford is to be commended.
