The second and final round of the stroke play qualifying for the 2012 US Amateur was completed earlier this morning and two NSW players have qualified through to the Top 64 for the match play section of the USGA Championship. Brett Drewitt and Matt Stieger have continued their solid from with Drewitt recording a second round score 71 (E) at Cherry Hills for a 140 (-1) to finish in T19. Stieger fired 70 (E) at Common Grounds GC to finish on 141 (E) T25. Drewitt and Stieger are yet to know their opponents in the first round of match play as the USGA will conduct a 17-man playoff to determine the last 14 spots tomorrow. Jake Higgonbottom the lone other New South Welshman in the field improved on yesterday s performance to shoot a second round 71 to finish on 147 (+6). Unfortunately for Jake it was not quite good enough to qualify finishing in T120. American Bobby Wyatt followed yesterday s 64 with a sore of 68 today to finish on 132 (-9) to be the leading qualifier. Two other Australian s have qualified through to the match play; Oliver Goss (Western Australia) 138 T7 Todd Sinnott (Victoria) 142 T39 with Cameron Smith (Queensland) 143 in tomorrow s playoff.
