Vale Alex Johnston

Alex Johnston Alex Johnston, the NSW Golf Association&aposs Director of Golf passed away on Wednesday night after a normal day at the office. Those in golf knew Alex from his involvement in the sport which included almost thirty years in golf administration. He was a long time member of St Michaels Golf Club and had been Secretary Manager at the club for approximately twenty years. In 2002 he moved from that position to the NSW Golf Association as Administration Manager and later took on the role of Director of Golf. Alex loved his golf and only recently had a highlight by way of winning his only Club Championship, the 2007 Mixed Foursomes. He did not hit it far but he thrived on the competition. Outside of golf, Alex also had his love of Rugby. Having played extensively for Randwick Rugby Club he derived much pleasure from his involvement there. Alex was a pocket dynamo with a heart of gold and acted as mentor for many of the junior golfers and staff. He loved his interaction with participants when he was away at tournaments and was always fondly remembered by those who met him. To those who worked with him in many varied areas of golf, he will be remembered as our “Champion of Champions” and a “mate” who will sorely be missed by all.
