It is with great sadness that we inform you that our Honorary Member Margaret Drury passed away on 27 December 2016. A Memorial Service was held at Avalon RSL on Monday, 2nd January 2017 to celebrate her long life.
Margaret is remembered for her dedication to golf. She was heavily involved with the NSWLGU and her local club, Balgowlah Golf Club, who honoured her with Life Membership. She served in numerous roles with the NSW Ladies Golf Union (NSWLGU/WGNSW): as its Council Member from 1983-1996, President (1992-1994), Vice President (1991, 1995), Honorary Treasurer (1988-1990), Junior Committee (1983-1984, 1990), Handicap Committee (1984-1987), Match Committee (1985-1988, 1991), Finance Committee (1988-1995 & Chair 1992-1994), Scratch Score Committee (1991), State Selector (1991), and Course Rating Committee (1996).
She also served on the Australian Ladies Golf Union as an Executive Member, Vice President, (1994-1993) and as a NSW Delegate (1991-1994).
Following her retirement from NSWLGU in November 1996, Margaret was elected a NSWLGU Counsellor (later termed “Honorary Member”). This title was carried through when Women’s Golf NSW and the NSW Golf Association merged to form Golf NSW.
Our heartfelt sympathies go to Margaret’s family and friends. May she rest in peace.
