The President, Board and Staff of Golf Victoria express their deepest sympathy at the passing of much loved and respected former Victorian Golf Association Council Member, Mr. Ray Barned, aged 72 years.

A former Captain of the Yarra Yarra Golf Club, Ray was
elected to the VGA Council in 1994 and made a significant contribution over that time to Victorian Golf particularly in areas of the Association’s Match Program; Senior Golf; Junior Development; Rules; Handicapping and Course Rating. He was elected as VGA Vice-President in 2002 and served for three years in this role.

Ray also chaired the VGA’s Selection Committee from 2002 – 2004 including involvement in the management of Victorian State and Colts Teams. He retired from VGA Council at the 2005 Annual meeting.

Ray is survived by his wife Judy, two daughters Suzanne and Jenny and grandchildren. A service to celebrate Ray’s life was held at the Nelson Brothers Williamstown Chapel on Friday 22 August at 2.30pm.

The Barned family has also requested that donations are preferred in lieu of flowers to Cancer Council Victoria, 1 Rathdowne Street, Carlton.

Golf Victoria’s sincere condolences are extended to the Barned family at this time. Ray was a thorough gentleman with a passion for golf and will be sadly missed.
