It is with great sadness that GolfWA advises of the passing of our Life Member Ray Turner.

Ray’s contribution to the game of golf was significant, first serving as Captain of his beloved Royal Perth Golf Club in 1976 -77 before taking on the Presidency from 1980 – 1983 and again in Royal Perth’s Centenary Year of 1995.  Ray was made a Life Member of Royal Perth in 1996.

Ray also served on the Executive of the WA Golf Association holding a variety of positions.  He was Treasurer from 1987 – 1992, Vice President from 1993 – 1998 and then became President of that body in 1999; a position he held until 2006.

Additionally, Ray was the WAGA’s delegate to the Australian Golf Union from 1999 – 2006 and in that time held the office of AGU President in 2003.  Even after completing his term as President of the WAGA in 2006, Ray continued as the WA Golf Australia delegate until 2010. Ray became a Life Member of the WA Golf Association in 2009.

Outside of golf, Ray was also a passionate West Coast Eagles supporter and one of his great thrills was being the No 1 ticket holder of that club in 1999-2000.

In business, Ray established a very successful career in the banking industry being General Manager of Town and Country WA Building Society for 10 years before becoming Managing Director of Town and Country Bank from 1984-1997. He also sat on numerous other Boards.

As can be seen Ray’s contribution to the community in sport and business was enormous and he will be fondly remembered in many circles.

Our thoughts are with Ray’s wife Kaye, his children Jaan and Damien and daughter-in-law Katherine.
