Vancsik’s maiden title

Daniel Vancsik has won the European Tours Madeira Open with the Argentinian equaling the tournaments lowest score of 18 under par, while Australia&aposs Simon Nash finished in the leaderboard&aposs top ten. The victory was Vancsik&aposs maiden win on the European tour, with the overnight leader holding his nerve and extending his lead during the final round to eventually defeat David Frost (68) and Santiago Luna (69), who both finished tied for second with 11 under par scores. Any notions that 30-year old Vancsik would cave under pressure as he sought his first victory were soon dispelled by the Argentinean&aposs performance in the first nine holes where he shot nine birdies to effectively take the tournament with nine holes remaining. Nash (70), meanwhile has tied for seventh place, with the Australian charging up the leaderboard in the back nine with three birdies in succession before a bogey on the 13th saw him finish eight under par and lose the chance to tie for third. Wade Ormsby also shot a solid 70 in the final round to finish the tournament at three under, while Steve Alker&aposs (73) poor last day saw the New Zealander finish at two under par.
