Vandersluis wins gold at Maccabiah in Israel

Roy Vandersluis competing in his 10th Maccabiah has won the Gold medal. Competing in the Mens Masters Golf Championship, Vandersluis has won several silver and bronze medals during his Maccabiah career but the Gold has always been his dream After day three in the Individual event Barry Shaked from Israel had a lead on Roy Vandersluis by 6 strokes, so there was no holding back.Vandersluis who has won 2 silver medals in previous Maccabiah had his work cut out if he was to take the GOLD. As the game began Roy gradually hole by hole cut the lead back and on the 16th hole Roy played a tremendous chip shot from the back of the green and holed a 10 foot putt to take the lead by one. Then on the last hole Shaked got into trouble off the tee and once again Roy played a career shot from just off the cart path, to the back of the 18th green, and once again produced a great chip shot onto the green to have two putts to win the tournament. Unfortunately Roy missed his first putt, but had a tap in putt to win Gold by one stroke from Barry, Roy scores 77, 78, 75 and 73 for a total 303. It was a great moment for Roy as he had his Daughter Lara there to see his victory. Third place was a shoot out between John Johnson USA and John August USA, with John Johnson the victor to take the bronze placing.
