Queenslander Mitch Varley put the finishing touches on a magnificent comeback to win the Tamar Valley Junior Cup in Tasmania today.
Varley, representing Sanctuary Cove, had shot an 80 in the first round of the 72-hole event at Greens Beach Golf Club.
A second-round even-par 72 put him right back in the mix but a third-round 76 still left him five strokes behind Warrnambool’s Caleb Perry.
But a superb 73 in the heat of the final round proved enough for Varley as Perry fell back with an 80.
Varley’s +13 total was two shots clear of Sydney’s Harrison Crowe who flew home with a closing 69 to share second with Perry at +15.
Redcliffe’s Chase Duffy finished T13 at +28, while Helensvale’s Alexander Whiteley was 20th at +36.
