Verplank carves up Lake Buena Vista

Scott Verplank has shot back-to-back six-under par rounds of 66 to hold a one stroke lead after the second round of the Children&aposs Miracle Network Classic at Lake Buena Vista in Florida. But it won&apost be smooth sailing for Verplank, with Tag Ridings, Stephen Ames and Ryan Armour all tied for second place, just one stroke behind, and another eight players at ten-under par. Ames carded the best score of the day with a nine-under that included a string of seven consecutive birdies on the front nine. Matthew Goggin is the best placed Australian after rounds of 68 and 67 leaves him at nine-under and in striking distance of the leader. Jarrad Lyle posted a three-under 69, which included just one bogey, while Michael Sim&aposs bogey-free round also left him at three-under for the day and four-under for the tournament. The news wasn&apost so good for fellow Australians, Robert Allenby, Gavin Coles, Paul Gow, and Andrew Buckle, who all missed the cut. Despite also carding a three-under score, Allenby missed the cut due to his poor first round performance. Leader Verplank has now made the cut 12 consecutive times at Lake Buena Vista, but has never won the tournament, a tie for second being his best finish.
