Vic Country Team falls short to South Australia

The Victorian Men’s Country Team has gone down to the South Australian team 7 points to 9.

The annual match between the Victorian and South Australian men’s country teams was played at Hamilton Golf Club this weekend. Local member Simon Goggin captained the 8-man team, consisting of Craig Boucher (Midlands), Tyson Gill (Torquay), Shane Grover (Nhill), Caleb Perry (Warrnambool), Levi Sclater (Sale), Troy Tainton (13th Beach) and Chris Tomlinson (Cobram Barooga).

The Vics started out steady following the Foursomes matches on Saturday morning. Huffadine and Boucher won their match 1 up for the first point, with Perry and Sclater squaring their match and leaving the Vics one point behind South Australia (1.5 to 2.5). It was a struggle in the afternoon with duo of Perry and Tomlinson the lone winners in the Four-Ball matches, putting the Vics back 2.5 points to 5.5 going into the individual matches on Sunday morning.

The Vics tried their best to fight back, gaining points from Tomlinson, Sclater, Huffadine and Grover and a half from Boucher. However their efforts were not enough to chase down the South Australian team who capitalised on their strong performances on Saturday to claim the overall shield by 9 points to 7.

Thanks to Hamilton GC for hosting, John Snowden (Team Manager) and Graeme Rentsch (Assistant Manager) for leading the team and congratulations to South Australia on their victory.
