Victoria wins Boys’ Interstate Series in final day blitz

Victoria turned on a sparkling performance to run over the top of Queensland and claim their first Australian Boys&apos Interstate Series title since 1996 after a flawless final day at Peninsula Country Golf Club. Resuming play just half a point behind Queensland, Victoria came home with a wet sail, winning their two final round contests 5-0 to clinch a memorable victory; their first in over a decade. The home side came out firing and dispatched Western Australia in the morning thanks to a solid 3&2 win by Geoff Drakeford to start and a 4&2 victory by Jordan Hampton to finish. More importantly however, Anthony Houston and Australian representative Bryden Macpherson claimed vital 1up wins in the middle to boost their team&aposs points tally and keep them in the hunt for overall honours. The seventh and final round was reduced to a nine-hole shootout because of time lost to inclement weather the previous day. The Victorians picked up where they left off earlier, rattling off another 5-0 win to clinch the series from Queensland who fell to Western Australia in their final contest. Bruce Harding, Victorian Team Manager said, “The boys played extremely well throughout the entire tournament. They went into the last day very motivated which was on show in their five-love win this morning before they then came out and did it again in the afternoon. “I don&apost think our boys had any trouble with the weather. The conditions were very trying yesterday, but they were so focused and intent on scoring well. Newly crowned Australian Boys&apos Amateur Champion, Daniel Nisbet carried his superb form into the Interstate Series, remaining undefeated throughout the event for Queensland while Sam Gava of South Australia also won all five of the matches he played. Golf Australia would like to thank Graeme Pearson, President of Peninsula Country Golf Club, his board and magnificent staff for providing excellent service and facilities for the duration of the event. Also thanks to the rules officials that gave their time to assist throughout the series. Click here for full results.
