Victorian Amateur Finalists Decided

Su-Hyun Oh (VIC) and Minjee Lee (WA) will do battle in tomorrow’s Women’s Victorian Amateur final, while Zach Murray (VIC) and Todd Sinnott (VIC) will contest the Men’s Victorian Amateur final at the prestigious Kingston Heath Golf Club.

In the Women’s Victorian Amateur, qualifier number 1 and world number 2 amateur Su-Hyun Oh closed out her semi-final match this afternoon defeating Hayley Bettencourt 6 & 5. Oh was never in trouble throughout her semi-final winning the early holes and never looking back. Oh had a similar outcome in her quarter final match this morning against a talented Grace Lennon winning 4 & 3.

On the other side of the draw, Qualifier number 2 and funnily enough world number 3 amateur Minjee Lee outclassed her opponent Julienne Soo winning 2/1. Lee began her semi-final strongly being 3 up through 3 holes before Soo was became very competitive only losing one hole before eventually going down 2 & 1.

The women’s final sets up beautifully for impressive viewing with both girls in exceptional form. The matchup is not unfamiliar as the two meet each other in last year’s final, with Oh being victorious. Lee will be determined to turn things around as they begin their 36 hole final tomorrow at 7:40am.

In the Men’s Victorian Amateur, Zach Murray was too good for South Australian Anthony Murdaca, defeating him 4 & 2 in the semi-final. Zach, who is only 16, is eager and excited as he makes his debut in the Victorian Amateur final. Earlier today, Murray defeated fellow Commonwealth member Matt Hinkley 8 & 6.

Murray will compete against Todd Sinnott who advanced to the final after a close fought win against Ben Eccles. Sinnott, a VIS Squad member, made a couple of early birdies and then held on to record a 2 & 1 win. In the quarter finals this morning, Todd only just managed to make the semis after a win on the 19th against New South Welshman Dale Brandt-Richards.

The Men’s Victorian Amateur final, played over 36 holes, will begin at 7:30am from the 1st tee.

Golf Victoria, along with Kingston Heath, encourages all those interested to spectate in what will be a fantastic display of golf.
