Victoria added another trophy to the cabinet this week at the School Sport Australia National Golf Championships. In a successful year for Victorian amateur golf the School Sport Victoria U12 State Team has joined the list of all conquering teams adding to an already long list which includes both the Men's and Women’s Interstate Series and also the Boys' and Girls' Interstate Series.
The U12 Team played around the beautiful Newcastle Golf Club layout, facing some fierce competition from NSW, QLD, ACT and SA. This is the first year that the Victorian Team has won the National Championships and the team manager Todd Canobie couldn’t be more proud of how the team performed.
“It’s my 4th year with the team and they played well in tough conditions around a tough golf course."
The team was not only victorious in claiming the overall trophy but also had some success in claiming the Brenda Carnavas Trophy (Girls Section) and narrowly missing the clean sweep with the boys 1 shot off claiming the Bowtell/Abbott Trophy (Boys section).
“The kids played really solid all week. The form of the girls was outstanding, basically winning by 20 shots each day of the main competition after taking out the ambrose earlier in the week” Todd Canobie said yesterday after the victory.
