Victorian Mid-Amateur Championship

The Victorian Men's & Women's Mid-Amateur Championships is a 36-hole stroke play event for male and female amateurs between the age of 30 years and over (as of 2018).

The Men's Mid-Amateur was introduced in 2005 to provide a pinnacle State Championship for players aged 30-54. National and State Mid-Amateur titles had been conducted in the US for many years and it was felt that such an event was worth undertaking in Victoria given the domination of major amateur titles by players aged 16 – 25.

Victoria’s decision was mirrored by Golf Australia who soon after added a National Mid Amateur title in 2007. The women’s section was introduced to the Championship in 2011.

In 2017, Golf Victoria reviewed the age criteria applicable to the Victorian Mid-Amateur Championship including consideration of major Mid-Amateur competitions held throughout world golf. While the minimum mid-amateur age criteria fluctuates widely, Golf Victoria will retain the requirement for a player to have reached the minimum age of 30 as at the first day of the Championship.

However the requirement for a player to be underneath an upper age-limit (previously 54) has been deleted in keeping with what’s been adopted in Mid-Amateur competitions throughout the world. Hence if a player is aged 30 and over as of Sunday 14 January, they will be age eligible to play in the 2018 Victorian Mid-Amateur Championship.
