Victorian U16 Junior Classic

<image="3" align="left" />

Golf Victoria runs these popular events 4 times throughout the year. Generally played on the last Friday of each school holiday period, these events are a great challenge for regular junior players and a stepping stone for those children looking for their first competitive experience.

Historically played as Under 12, the age divisions have been enlarged to incorporate children aged from U8 to U16 (in 2 year increments, entry numbers dependent). The Australian Pitch'n'Putt course in Mulgrave provides an ideal venue for these events, with prizes for boys and girls awarded in age divisions and for gross and nett (using the "Aust Pitch'n'Putt Callaway System"….no handicap required to compete).

Played over an 18 hole layout of testing short Par 3s, and concluding with a sausage sizzle, a participation certificate, and a 2 for 1 return play voucher, these events are great fun for all the family….and often form a child's first competition experience. Thanks are extended to Phil Shaw-Dennis and the team at the Australian Pitch'n'Putt for their support.

The format of play is a 9am shotgun start, with play generally taking around 2.5 hours to complete. Presentations are held afterwards and the event winds up around lunch time.

Victorian U16 Junior Classics – History And Records

The current format of the Victorian Junior Classics commenced in 2004 as a way of providing young players with a competitive experience in each school holiday period. Many of the state's best players have started off playing in this event.

The tournament has had many multiple winners over the years, but two players have really excelled over the tricky layout. Bianca Ling and Matias Sanchez have won a combined 18 events with Matias winning 11 times and establishing the tournament record of 47 (7 under par) which included a hole in one.
