Victory at home for Cairncross

The Kingston Heath Senior Amateur is the second cab off the rank for the week of Men’s Senior Sandbelt competition.

97 players contested in windy but milder conditions compared to the 70km winds that howled through the fairways of Yarra Yarra Golf Club yesterday afternoon. Kingston Heath has been the host to many major tournaments over the years, which include the Australian Open (8 times) and the Australian Masters in 2009 and 2012. With the temporary 19th in play today, the par 71 layout proved to be a test of golf across the board.

Kingston Heath member Alex Cairncross showed off his familiarity on home soil, carding a fantastic score of 72 off the stick to take out the gross title by 3 shots from Woodlands member Michael Doutch. In the nett section, it was a 3 way tie on 70 between Cairncross, Raymond Falla (Nathalia) and Frank Palinkas (Woodlands). With Cairncross taking out the gross prize, it was Falla off a handicap of 11 winning the countback from Palinkas.
Players will travel across to Victoria GC tomorrow for the third tournament of the series.
