VIDEO: McCardle surprises young caddy

For five years running Matt Van Eden has caddied for his favourite Max McCardle at the Isuzu Queensland Open – and today the South Australian had a special surprise for his prodigy.

McCardle first met his young caddy through a billet arrangement with the Van Eden family in 2014.

Matt, just 11 at the time, offered to jump on the bag for McCardle and has caddied for him every year since.

In between looping duties the Junior Golf Queensland member has managed to bring his own handicap down from 18 to two.

Today, McCardle had a surprise in mind for his young double – a surprise pro-am spot in his group.

McCardle gets his Isuzu Queensland Open campaign underway – with Matt by his side – tomorrow at 7:55am off the 10th with Brad Moules and amateur Zubair Firdaus.
