Vogels and Hilliard capture Kooringal titles

A bumper field of 102 player’s assembled this morning at Kooringal Golf Club for the first Stuart Appleby event of the school holidays. The course was presented in fantastic condition and weather was conducive for low scoring with only a subtle south easterly breeze to mention.

Commonwealth’s Alex Hilliard came in with a sensational one under-par 73 to claim the overall girls title in what is the second instalment of the 2016 SAJG Regional Series. Hilliard’s strong performance today will provide her with plenty of momentum when she captain’s the Victorian Girls side at the interstate series in early April.

Kieran Vogels was too strong in the overall boys section when the one marker signed for a very solid round of level par 71 to capture victory on a countback from Sam McLean. Vogels has had a recent run of form with a win also coming at the Victorian Junior Open only a couple of months ago.

Kooringal’s Jack Nibbs used all of his local knowledge to walk home with the division A title with a nett score of 69, or two better than his handicap. 12 year old Trinity Francis was too strong in the B division when the Huntingdale member recorded a round of four strokes better than her 16 handicap. In C division it was Alexandra Kerr that was awarded the top prize with a very impressive 40 stableford points. The Victoria member narrowly edged out Travis Santoso who finished just a single point back on 39.

The next Regional Series event will be played at Port Fairy Golf club on Sunday 29 May.
