Vogels and Stubbs claim top honours at 13th Beach

The 2016 Victorian Junior Open was played this afternoon at 13th Beach Golf Links in relatively calm conditions. The tournament is played just four days prior to the actual championship that sees both men and women compete in the same field – the only tournament of its kind in the world!

Kieran Vogels blitzed the field in the boys section to take home the 2016 title with a level par round of 72. Vogels' form of late has been very impressive, with solid rounds over the entire summer which has seen the 16 year old drop his handicap to just one stroke. Jasper Stubbs was the Vogels’ nearest challenger and finished 2 strokes in arrears of the eventual winner.

It was a nail biting finish in the overall girls section with a three way countback on 76 between Linley Ooi, Piper Stubbs and Shanaiah Fernando needed to determine the winner. End the end it was Piper that prevailed as the champion and cemented a place in the Oates Vic Open pro-am.

Max Edmanson was too strong in the boy’s nett section as the Barwon Sports Academy member cruised to a round of 67 to walk home victorious. Lauren Goddard edged out Ashley Hall on a countback for the girls nett title after both players signed for rounds of 72.

Congratulations to all of the divisional winners.
