When it comes to running an important golf championship, Stonecutters Ridge CEO Craig Scott knows exactly how important a team of volunteers is to the success of the event.
“The volunteer army we’ve had at the last two NSW Opens have been wonderful. They’ve got through a range of jobs from refilling water stations, manning scoreboards, marshalling, emptying the rubbish, pretty much everything that our staff can’t get to,” Mr. Scott said.
The membership of Stonecutters Ridge have really embraced the Championship and the event’s success is seen by them as a personal sense of achievement. Many of the crew who volunteered in the first year jumped at the opportunity to be part of it again last year.
“Our members have embraced the NSW Open. When we called for volunteers we were able to fill the requirements of 60 to 70 each year. They all enjoy themselves.”
Although long days throughout the week were the norm for many of the volunteers, it was the expressions on the faces of many of the volunteer army that told the story of the experience they were having according to Mr Scott.
“Some of them put in a lot of effort – 12 hour days, but they still had a smile on their face at the end of the day. They enjoyed themselves.”
Mr Scott is already answering enquiries from members keen to be involved in the 2016 Championship.
“They’re all looking forward to the tournament, some folk are keen to get involved now. They’re already planning to set the time aside in their work schedule to be a part of it.”
“They’ve got a thrill out of it, being out there on the day so close to the players. They are really keen, and that’s a good sign for the Championship,” Mr. Scott said.
