Monday December 5 is International Volunteer Day (IVD) a United Nations auspiced day that commenced in 1985, is celebrated around the world as a day to recognise the contribution of volunteers in their communities. We acknowledge and thank all the wonderful volunteers who support their Clubs, Districts, State and National Organisations. Golf Australia and Golf Queensland recently congratulated Abby Driver on being named the Sport QLD Volunteer of the Year. Lynne Ritchie has been nominated for the Sport NSW Volunteer of the Year, with the winners to be announced in early 2012. On International Volunteer Day, Golf Australia also congratulates Melbourne publicist Ron Smith who last Friday (International Day for Persons with a Disability) was named Victorian Volunteer of the Year for his promotion of the Limbs for Life Golf Clinics for amputees at Sandhurst Golf Club.
