Walker and Pickwick mid-way leaders

Jessica Pickwick has extended her lead to 5 strokes while David Walker cards 2 red to jump on top of the men’s leaderboard at the Westcoast Open Amateur.

It was a cold and blustery start for players at Warrnambool this morning in contrast to yesterday’s pleasant afternoon on course. The icy north-west wind added to the challenge of the narrow and undulating layout, which boasts as the home to PGA Tour champion Marc Leishman.

Jessica Pickwick is showing steady form with a round of 1 over par 73 for a 36-hole total of 147 (+3). The Kilmore member is now 5 shots clear of Commonwealth’s Alexandra Hilliard on 152. Steffie Vogel (Cobram-Barooga) is a further 5 shots back from Hilliard on 157 and a shot ahead of Victoria’s Nasya Sohail.

Leap frogging into the men’s lead is David Walker from Chirnside Park. Walker posted a 2 under round of 70 for 141 total to charge ahead by 4 strokes from round 1 leader Caleb Perry of Warrnambool on 145. Coming in behind the leading pair is Lance Go from Cranbourne on 149.

Play will move across to Port Fairy Golf Links tomorrow morning for rounds 3 & 4 with inclement weather looming on the forecast.
