The 2014 Keysborough Senior Amateur was played this morning under gusty and hot conditions. The Senior Amateur title kicks off a busy week for Keysborough as it hosts an array of tournaments over the next few days, including the Bendigo Bank Keysborough Pro-Am on Thursday.
Ray Walker fired an impressive one over-par today on the perfectly manicured par 73 layout to narrowly claim victory on a countback. The Chirnside Park belied the challenging wind gusts of 35kph to edge out Andrew Hansen for top honours. Walker’s remarkably consistent round comprised of an astonishing 15 pars, 1 birdie and just two bogeys at the 9th and 11th holes.
Walker will add the 2014 Keysborough Senior Amateur title to his 2013 wins at both Cobram-Barooga and the Alpine Senior Masters as well as the Moyne Senior Classic back in 2012.
Meanwhile, Frank Palinkas of the Woodlands Golf Club was victorious in the nett component following his excellent round of 68 off a handicap of 7 strokes. Second place was taken out by Corowa’s Warren Earle after the 8 marker retuned 70 this morning.
Next on the Senior Calendar is the Yarra Courses Senior Amateur, another 18-Hole stroke event held at Green Acres Golf Club on Monday 3 February 2014.
