Tim Walker made light work of the near unplayable conditions at Port Fairy Golf Links today to lead the Westcoast Open Amateur after round one.
Amidst howling winds and scattered showers, the Yarra Yarra GC member fired a one-over-par 73 despite a slight hiccup on the seventh hole with a triple bogey.
Walker’s round was highlighted by three consecutive birdies through holes one-to-three.
Trailing Walker by two shots in second place and joining him in the lead group tomorrow are Harry Goakes (Royal Melbourne) and Matthew Wood (Kooringal).
Across in the women’s field, the battle of the Warrnambool GC members sees Lauren Higgins leading Diana Robinson by six shots.
Robinson produced the shot of a day on the par-five first hole, holing out for eagle after deflecting off Higgins’ ball.
Round two will commence from 7:15am tomorrow morning at Warrnambool Golf Club.
