Walkers Super 66

The final round of the Stuart Appleby Yarrawonga Junior Open was played on the Lake course at the Yarrawonga-Mulwala Golf Club Resort. Overnight leader Piper Stubbs was poised to claim the title taking a 4 stroke lead into this morning’s round. In the boys section there where 7 players within reach of winning.
Antony Majstorovic and Toby Walker were going head to head early with Majstorovic extending his lead to 2 after a birdie on the second hole. Walker quickly responded with a birdie on the third to bring the gap back to one shot. Both birdied the fourth and fifth holes before Walker made bogey on the sixth and gave Majstorovic a two shot lead. Majstorovic then made double bogey on the eighth bringing him level with Walker. Walker then grabbed the lead after a birdie on the par five ninth hole while Majstorovic made par.
Meanwhile Nathan Page had a bogey free front nine with four birdies to be out in 32 and Daniel Gill who started the round just one shot back was out in 35, both now just one shot back from Majstorovic.
Walker then backed up on the tenth with another birdie to take a two shot lead. Both Majstorovic and Walker then steadied with pars on the eleventh and twelfth holes before disaster struck Majstorovic, another double bogey on the thirteenth handed Walker a four shot lead and let Daniel Gill back in. Meanwhile Nathan Page’s bogey at the thirteenth pushed him up to tied third place with Majstorovic.
Walker maintained a three shot lead over Gill after they both made birdie at the fifteenth.
Gill and Page both bogey on the sixteenth putting Gill into second place and four shots back and Page in fourth place six shots back.
Page then rebounds on the seventeenth with a strong birdie putting him into a tie for third with Majstorovic.
Majstorovic and Page both finished with birdies as did Walker while Gill made par. Walker finished his awesome round of 66 to win by five shots at a seven under par total a tournament record. Gill, Majstorovic and Page all finished tied second on a total of two under par.   
In the Girls section Piper Stubbs was out in 36 and Steffi Vogel was out in 39 giving Stubbs a six shot lead going down the tenth hole. Stubbs came in with even par 36 and Vogel who managed to make five birdies in what was an up and down round came in with 37. Stubbs extended her four shot lead to win by two in an impressive display from the young gun.
Paddy Murphy from Buninyong ran away with the overall handicap title as he signed for rounds of 71 and 62 making a nine shot improvement from his first round.
