The 2018 Bendigo Senior Amateur kicked off today in a typical Bendigo winter day, chilly with an early shower that clears late in the afternoon. Despite the weather, there were some fantastic scores returned across the board, setting up for an exciting finish tomorrow afternoon.
In the women’s field, the lowest handicap marker in the whole field Jane Wall (Barham) posted 32 Scratch Stableford points, giving her an 8 shot lead over second placed Kerry Scales (Port Fairy) who carded 24 points. Kerry’s score fared better in the Stableford competition however, a fabulous 39 points from a 16 handicap gives her a 3 point lead ahead of Riversdale’s Faye Plumridge who finished with 36 points from a 25 handicap.
The men’s gross leaderboard sees Chris Tatt from Buninyong take the overnight lead after shooting a 6-over par 78. Coincidentally, Chris was in the same position after round 1 in this event in 2017, a different competitor in second place this year however, with John Kelly (Metropolitan) only one shot behind on 79. In the men’s nett competition, John Hoare has carded the round of the day, a 10-under his handicap nett 62 has set him up nicely for the final round in the morning, taking a 7 stroke lead over second place local Bruce Cotterill with a nett 69.
Players will all tee-off in the second round tomorrow morning from 8:30am.
