Warfare to Welfare – golf part of Vietnam Vets retreat

The baggage often associated with Vietnam veterans has slipped well beyond the weighty packs once carried in the jungles of South East Asia and settled in the vicinity of their waist lines if a calendar to be released soon is any indication.

Recently released to the models and friends by Denise Drysdale and to the public, the calendar features a series of Vietnam vets that have bared ‘nearly all’.

Vets helping vets, it’s what they do, mates forever.

Greg and Annie Carter (Greg a Vietnam vet himself) who have established a retreat at Bairnsdale for war veterans and their partners are organising the calendar as a fund raiser to help support the running costs of the retreat. Veterans from around the nation have stayed with the Carters in a quiet, secure, safe and peaceful environment. Nights by the camp fire, a round of golf on the retreat course and pleasant walking tracks all make up a place where mates can share a beer and a chat .The facility is a voluntary and free service.

There has been no trouble in finding vets to be suitable candidates for the final selection of photographs that will be shown in the calendar. The remainder will be shown as smaller images at the back of the calendar.

“Men at War and Peace " show the main photograph of the veteran doing an activity he enjoys in present day life, there will be a smaller image of him on the monthly date page during his tour of duty in Vietnam.

Men at war and Peace can be obtained at selected RSL and bowling clubs.
