The 2016 Warragul senior amateur concluded this afternoon as 46 players headed out in pleasant afternoon conditions after Thursday's round one. At the conclusion of round one, both the men’s & women’s leaderboards were tight at the top setting the scene for a close finish in today’s final round.
In the women’s component, Susan Rose (Warragul) used her local knowledge to her advantage surviving a countback on 58 stableford points to win the stableford event by the narrowest of margins from a daily handicap of 18. Runner-up in the stableford event was another Warragul local in 20 marker Denyse Greening who missed out on the top prize in a tight finish. Local Warragul members took out the top four places in the women’s event, with Glenda Kelly capping off a great event for the club defending her title from last year with a scratch stableford score of 33 points.
In the men’s event, Warragul members featured heavily again, with John Bundle ensuring another win for the locals with a fine nett score of 145 from a daily handicap of 13. In the runner-up position was Hector Melo (Warragul) who survived a three way countback on 147 from a daily handicap of 26 to finish in second place.
In the gross championship, Cobram-Barooga’s Ross Percy led from start to finish to cap a dominant win with a two round total of 155. Percy finished well clear of the field with his nearest rival eight shots adrift in what was a comfortable victory. Ken O’Brien (Rossdale) finished runner-up on a countback with a score of 163.
