Warren strides into Valencia lead

Marc Warren carded a third-round 68 to move to the top of the leaderboard at the Open de Espana in Valencia on Saturday. Richard Green, the only Australian to make the cut, slipped to a share of 48th after shooting a one-over-par 73. Warren, who shot consecutive 70s in the opening two rounds, recorded six birdies and two bogeys third time around at a blustery Parador de El Saler course to be eight under overall. The Scot leads compatriot Craig Lee by two strokes heading into the final round, with Englishmen David Horsey and Paul Waring a further shot behind in equal third. “I am very pleased with today&aposs work,” Warren said. “They were tough conditions on a tough golf course, so to shoot 68 is a very pleasing day. “I like the fact you&aposve got to hit so many different shots (in the wind). There was always something to the shots today and I felt as if I did well today. Hopefully that continues tomorrow. “Concentration is paramount, especially on a course as tough as this one, and it will be tomorrow.” Lee climbed three places on the back of a two-under 70, while Horsey was the biggest mover of the day with a superb 66 that featured eight birdies. “I played well early on and managed to get a couple of birdies, but the end was difficult with the wind and I threw a couple (of shots) away,” Lee said. “It is always frustrating (to end poorly). There were a couple of easy up and downs and I did not quite make the most of them. “But I am delighted with the position that I am in; the game is pretty good and pretty steady.” Overnight leader Peter Uihlein was left to rue a costly 74 that saw him slip to equal fifth alongside Frenchman Raphael Jacquelin, England&aposs David Howell and Maximilian Kieffer of Germany at four under overall.
