WATCH: Neangar Park set for new facility

Neangar Park Golf Club's hope of providing all golfers in the Bendigo region with more ways to enjoy the game is one step closer.

Plans for a new driving range and a nine-hole 'pitch 'n' putt' course have been approved and with funding for the project lined up, construction is set to begin this winter.

President Philip DeAraugo is thrilled to be able to provide Neangar Park's members and all social golfers in Bendigo with a ground-breaking facility.

"When we put it out on social media, our draft plans, it went beserk," DeAraugo told Golf Australia.

"We had lots and lots of people who said they hadn't played golf but are really interested in that sort of game."

The project will be funded partly by the club but was made possible by a Sport Australia grant.

"We're a fairly small club, with around 450 members, so we were always thinking we were going to have to try and get some funding," says DeAraugo.

"Working with Golf Australia and our local politicians, we've been able to secure some funding to help contribute towards the project."

Golfers keen to check out the new facility won't have to wait long, with the driving range expected to be open in early 2020 and the pitch 'n' putt course ready for play in 2021.

"We're looking at starting works towards the end of winter," says DeAraugo.

"Driving range happens first and then we'll do the pitch 'n' putt. That'll hopefully be operational by the end of summer and then the pitch 'n' putt the following summer."
