Waverley pair crowned Doris Chambers champions

A picture perfect spring day greeted the seventy two pairs who took to Long Island Country Club for the second state final of the 2014 Doris Chambers Cup.

The annual foursomes stableford event spread across two venues saw approximately one hundred and thirty four Victorian clubs represented in the 2014 edition of this long standing event. A clear reflection of the significance & popularity of this event within the women’s calendar.

All competitors are to be congratulated for qualifying for either state final, as in doing so, each pair took home bragging rights at their home clubs by winning the club stage of the event.

Long Island Country Club was once again presented in supreme condition, a huge thank you on behalf of all competitors and officials to the ground staff & all associated with Long Island Country Club for a superb day.

As the majority of the field battled to negotiate the slick greens and steep bunkers, it was the pair of Libby Kemp & Honey Thanakasempat representing Waverley golf club with a combined handicap of (23) who triumphed in the morning field and also taking overall honours for both the state finals with a brilliant 43 stableford points.

Combining well to record the best overall score of the event, Kemp put the win down to Thanakasempat’s length and accuracy from the tee, ‘Honey hit’s a great ball, I was very happy to follow her drives for the round’ stated Kemp during the pair’s winning speech.

Runners-up from the morning field were Karen Adams & Sue Hatfield representing Drouin Golf Club with a combined handicap of (26) with another fine score of 40 stableford points. The Drouin pair could consider themselves a little unlucky not to take top honours as their score of 40 stableford points would have been enough to take top honours at the first state final as well as the afternoon field of the second state final.

In the afternoon field, it was Carol Reid & Sally Easton representing Peninsula Golf Club with a combined handicap of (17) who recorded 35 stableford points to take home the afternoon prize.

Eva Leonards & Jeanie Smith representing Victoria Golf Club with a combined handicap of (33) finished runners-up to the Peninsula pair with a score of 31 stableford points c/b.

Golf Victoria would like to thank all participating clubs & competitors for taking part in this year’s event and look forward to another successful event in 2015.
