Weather causes havoc at Jr Champs

Torrential rain has caused havoc at the NSW Junior Championships begin played at Shelly Beach Golf Club.

Officials were left with no option but to suspend play at 3:15pm on thursday afternoon due to the deluge, bringing a premature end to the third round of the NSW Junior Championships.

As a result, the 2016 NSW Junior Championships at Shelly Beach Golf Club has been reduced to a 54 hole event.

It was the second major weather disruption, after almost 1 1/2 hours were lost earlier in the day due to the atrocious weather.

63 players had managed to complete the third round, however a further 88 players were still out on course when the heavens opened.

St. Michael's Golf Club's Stephanie Kyriacou has established a one-shot lead over Victorian Linley Ooi after playing five holes of her third round, while Kiwi Shaun Campbell and Victorian Andre Lautee are tied for the lead two shots in front of Queenslands Jed Morgan.

All players who are yet to complete their third round will resume play at 7:30am on Friday morning. The final groups have 14 holes of golf to play, so providing there are no further weather delays, play will conclude at approximately 11:00am. The 2016 NSW Junior Championships Presentation will be held about 30 minutes after the final groupings finish their round.

The final round of the JNJG State Age Championship Plate at Toukley Golf Club will go ahead as planned.
