Webb clings to Rio hopes

Karrie Webb's Olympic dream is alive, but she needs to have a big weekend in the Women's US Open to earn a trip to Rio De Janeiro next month.

Webb made the cut at the Women's US Open at CordeValle Golf Club near San Jose after a second, consecutive 73 in today's second round. But at two-over par, she is 10 shots from the lead held by South Korea's Sung Hyung Park.

Going into the event it was believed Webb (ranked 59th) needed at least a top-five finish and Oh (ranked 39th) not make the cut to jump the 20 spots in the world rankings to get into the Australian team for Rio.

While Oh (75-77) missed the cut, Webb is faced with a tough test over the weekend to climb the leaderboard.

Australia's top-ranked player Minjee Lee is the best-placed Australian in the field, tied-15th but falling down the leaderboard after a 75 on the second day to go with her opening 67.

World No. 13 Lee paid dearly for two double bogeys, one at the par-four 14th hole, where she drove into a fairway trap, came up short, then wedged clear over the green, and again at the 17th where her errant drive was unplayable.

But she is just six shots from the lead.

World No. 1 Lydia Ko was another big mover on the second day with a 66.
